Or is it all just a hoax...? I'm starting to have some doubts about crystal therapy. For the last few months I've been sleeping on several hundred pounds of pure amethyst and tourmaline which is heated to produce negative ions and far infrared rays, supposedly to help with mental, physical, and, well, all kinds of illness, even cancer. The bed (the BioMat by Richway), has been shown to have scientifically proven results on certain illnesses and is used in hospitals now. Since using it though, I've not experienced any changes at all, in fact, my health is declining, and despite all the many times I've tried to interact with gemstone energy, I just don't sense anything. Do you think some people are just not partial to mineral energies or perhaps, I'm staring to think, maybe crystal therapy is just a hoax... Anyone have any opinions or personal experiences with crystal therapy? Benefits of the BioMat: Reduces stress and fatigue Relieves anxiety and promotes relaxation Improves sleep patterns Reduces inflammation Eases joint pain and stiffness Provides warm, soothing pain relief Eliminates toxins in the body Increases blood circulation Alleviates migraines and tension headaches Reduces allergy symptoms Improves immune system function Improves cardiovascular health Burns calories and controls weight Improves muscle tone and skin quality http://www.biomat.com __________________ —Natalie D. Or is it all just a hoax...? There are a huge number of New Age therapies out there and I have found it best to take a skeptical position on them until I've investigated them thoroughly. The New Age subculture is very money driven. It revolves around the marketing of books that purport to solve your problems, expensive packaged products, and weekend workshops. Some is useful, but most often it doesn't live up to the grandiose claims. I do differentiate between traditional, time tested things and what was invented since the onset of the New Age movement. Often these things are given a false pedigree. They might claim that this or that was invented by the high priests of ancient Egypt. Really the idea came to some Californian hippie dude, some hack writer, or a marketing group. I find that these claims of being ancient are sometimes tenuous at best. Even things like Tai Chi/Taiji--which I support as being fantastic. They often claim that it is thousands of years old. Really Taiji was invented around 1640, although it was based in Qigong techniques that had been around for a few hundred years longer. They exaggerate and overstate things so much that it makes people skeptical. They often distort the original ideas that it has been based on in order to fit the masses desire for instant gratification and tie it up in a shiny pink bow. There is the old joke about what the difference between something that is New Age and something that is part of the Craft. The difference is a decimal point. If something is sold by a witch it might be priced for $10 while if you bought it from a New Age shop or practitioner it woudl cost $100. As far as crystals go I'm not a big fan. I do use a few, like hematite, for helping to clear my energy, but for the rest I haven't found that they are useful. Most claims about crystals seem to date as far back as the 1960s. Most were never traditionally used in the way that they use them nowadays. There are instances of crystals being used in yogic and Chinese energy work practices but they have always been infrequent and with much more limited claims. Yes you can often feel a kind of energy radiating out from crystals when you hold them in your hand. But does it do anything therapeutic? How do you know that it does have an beneficial effect on that particular condition? Also is it a significant benefit or negligible and not worth the price? I've been a Massage Therapist for almost 20 years now. I have worked with people doing New Age therapies of different kinds over the years. Just from looking at the stated benefits of the Biomat it occurs to me that they are almost the same claims as for having sex. It occurs to me that it would be cheaper just to whack off or give your better half a nudge tonight. lol Also in my experience, when they mention toxins or free radicals in their benefits blurb then it is a bunch of baloney. That is just my opinion but I have been involved in this for a long time and have metaphorically peeked behind the curtain. Yeah, this I have noticed, actually. I bought a new pendulum the other day which is a spherical quartz with a pointer on the bottom for use with charts. When I squeezed it in my hand, I definitely felt something. Something else popped up in my mind though... I spend about 14-16 hours a day in bed on the biomat. Maybe I'm so acclimated to crystal energy that I just can't feel it anymore? It's a mystery... At least it makes a good heating pad that doesn't cause cancer from the heating system. Although for $1000, that's a bit pricey. Someone gifted me a huge labradorite by the way... What are some of the best ways to use crystals or to get acquainted with them? __________________ —Natalie D. Or is it all just a hoax...? Crystal Therapy has always worked for my family, as well as myself. After making a Malachite + Sugilite bracelet for both my brother & mother, either of them have yet to have a seizure this year. My mom, who had stroke a month ago, has gained nearly full function back in into her right leg and arm while wearing a Melanite + Quartz Crystal bracelet & anklet. And Lepidolite & Lithium Quartz helped the oldest of my younger brothers stop taking adderall. (thank goodness, if anything is a hoax, it's ADD in my opinion.) As for myself, I use crystals for EVERYTHING; from PMS to grief. They've helped me through a lot in my life... __________________ Visit me at http://tarotkristy.com/ "Evolution is a tightly coupled dance, with life and the material environment as partners. Or is it all just a hoax...? Stop using the mat. I don't know enough about it to be able to say much about its benefits and downsides, but it seems to me that your decline in health may very well tie in with the fact that you've been exposed to the energies of the same crystals over and over again. I love all of my crystals very dearly, but there are different crystals for different times. When I feel off-balance in any way, I first try to work out which areas of my body and my mind/emotions are affected. I choose the crystals I will use to set that imbalance straight based on a mixture of my gut feeling and my study of crystal therapy. Once that imbalance is gone, I stop using the crystals. I also sometimes just use them as fortifications for certain situations, though.. Any time I go into huge crowds of people, I carry labradorite with me as an anchor for my psychic protection. Any time I feel out of sorts or homesick, I carry lepidolite around. Different crystals, different needs. I use them for everything, but will stop their use once I no longer have need for their specific energies. If you really just want to experiment a bit and see what's going to work out for you, why not go to a store that carries all kinds of crystals and just let your hands hover over all of them to see which ones vibe with you and which ones don't? I usually feel a magnetic pull to a certain part of the store or to a specific sort of crystal when I do that. I'm very picky with my crystals and chose all of mine based on how they felt when I picked them up. Some crystals just turn cold in my hands or give me a sense of being off-kilter or nauseous even though they're beautiful, which means they're not meant for me at that time. Others heat up immediately as soon as I touch them and well, call me crazy if you like, some of them even say 'hello' in their own little ways. I get the insanest rushes from crystals that vibe with me sometimes, especially from ones like larimar and lepidolite and orange calcite. It always surprises the salespeople when I go pay for them and the crystals are so very hot to the touch, lol. __________________ She had studied the universe all her life, but had overlooked its clearest message: for small creatures such as we the vastness is bearable only through love. - Carl Sagan SunSister is offline Reply With Quote Old 11-15-12 #6 Chronata Chronata's Avatar Join Date: Mar 2010 Location: State of Grace... and Cheese Posts: 119 Reputation: 21 Default Re: Maybe crystals don't work for some people? Or is it all just a hoax...? Crystal therapy works for me...BUT not all crystals work for me. Certain minerals seem to gel with me better than others, and therefor have better results. For instance, I am getting amazing healing and energy results from wearing Amber and using kyanite (specifically to aid in depression and feelings of increased energy) But stick me near an amethyst, and I can't sleep, I have intense restlessness and feelings of increased anxiety. I don't know why it affects me that way, but it just doesn't gel with my personality or body....or whatever. I know that crystals work for me, because I have had great experience with most of them, and I am pretty sensitive to a lot of different energies. Maybe it's all just psychosomatic, and a question of belief...but man there are just some things I don't like to have nearby. Or is it all just a hoax...? After we started working together with herbs and diet you were going to see a naturopath in your area. My very humble opinion is that diet and herbs are THE most potent natural medicines of all. (Not counting things like meditation and prayer, energy work). Have you been able to follow up and find someone to work with? On topic, I don't believe crystals are a hoax, but I feel they need to be worked with correctly. Someone like StoneSeer who knows how to use them will see stronger results than a person just more or less looking up meanings and carrying one around. I am a herbalist and nutritionist first, I work with energy second - but I am rarely without my rutilated quartz necklace, black tourmaline, black moonstone bracelet, labradorite palm stone, or assorted pieces of amber. __________________ Mitakuye Oyasin http://mallowandwhitepine.wordpress.com/ plants, spirit, medicine - my Earthwalker blog "When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive - to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love." ~ Marcus Aurelius (AD 121-180) feranaja is offline Reply With Quote Old 11-15-12 #8 BigAl Eclectic BigAl's Avatar Join Date: Jul 2012 Location: North East Scotland Posts: 492 Reputation: 46 Default Re: Maybe crystals don't work for some people? Or is it all just a hoax...? She-it. I'm really sorry, Lady of the Trees. Whoever is selling this product should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves. Not a single claim they make in that comprehensive list is even remotely valid. As to the assertion that it has been scientifically proven, and is being used in hospitals... unbelievable! The best that anyone is likely to get out of it is some light muscular relief from the heating effect (unlike the amethyst - which is susceptible to damage by heat! So wouldn't surprise me if all that is in it is quartz dust! ) This kind of hyperbolic sales speak from the "easy buck" section of the New Age movement (spiritual my ass), makes me so mad. Nacken makes a wonderful point about the difference between genuine seekers and these dishonest charlatans... I'm really sorry that, having trusted your healing to them, they probably don't have the grace to feel even slightly bad about how they are making money out of other people's situation. Back on topic... Apart from the points noted above... I'm not surprised that you aren't feeling any effect. If there really is that amount of crystal in there (lets give them the benefit of the doubt... ) 1: your biomagnetic sheath is going to be completely overwhelmed and 2: there is absolutely no way of knowing how the energy of the crytals are being directed - which may very well cause more harm than good! Crystal work is a subtle art (matching the form of the healing energy that the little blighters contain) which can at times require very specific manipulation and direction in order to be effective. (As an oversimplified generalistion, point in to energise, point out to cleanse, eg.) Every life form on the planet is unique. And, as an allopathic physician will not prescribe the same drug for every person with a particular disease for that reason, neither will a crystal therapist worth their salt consider a single crystal for every case of a particular malady. A crystal that works for me for a specific purpose, is not guaranteed to work for anyone else - the effect of each depending on individual need, status of the subtle bodies, and the stability and effective connection of the meridians and nadis with the physical / emotional centres which they support. Every (crystal) prescription needs to consider so many aspects, that it is quite impossible to generalise. Crystals, in my experience, do indeed work. It requires no belief in them for them to work. Nor does the 'patient' necessarily need to 'feel' anything for crystals to be effective. However, it is crucial that the correct crystal is used, in a directed manner, taking into consideration all the relevant personal factors. (And yes, that includes for the EARLY stages of certain cancerous conditions. (No - not amethyst! )) Don't let this experience convince you that crystals aren't effective. You just need to find a genuine healer who uses them effectively and professionally. (Follow Nacken's advice - if they are looking for substantial sums for a session, be suspicious. I'd also suggest being wary of anyone with a 'certificate' - but that's probably just a personal bias on my part... ) Last edited by BigAl; 11-15-12 at 06:41 PM. I am a herbalist and nutritionist first, I work with energy second - but I am rarely without my rutilated quartz necklace, black tourmaline, black moonstone bracelet, labradorite palm stone, or assorted pieces of amber. I did. I've been working with a naturopath in my area and she recommended this product, which, I made sure she's not a part of it and receives nothing from the company for advising it as a product. A friend of mine used the mat and her hyperthyroid was completely healed. The naturopath thought this would help me because I suffer such terrible anxiety and am on so many anxiety medications (serious heavy stuff, like, that can't be taken with alcohol type heavy), and amethyst has helped me in the past with anxiety - she thought using a lot of it as opposed to just jewelry might be more effective. I've found that I tend to lay on it all the time (I hate being away from it) and it helps my anxiety, yet, my depression is getting much much worse. I'm on about eight drugs now and the naturopathic doctor is trying to get me to get off of them. I saw her yesterday about this issue and she thinks that the medication may be interfering in what crystals and herbs can do for me. Also, in response to StoneSeer, I have a giant bag full of LOTS of different crystals. My favorites are the labradorite, larimar, amber, rutilated quartz, rose quartz, amethyst, aventurine, amazonite, jade and moonstone. I created a little mojo bag and carry different ones around depending on the day. I've noticed the rutilated quartz and the labradorite seem to help the best... It's still nothing as powerful as the medications I have to take though. And at this point, they've considered me terminal (due to the amount of suicide attempts, CPR, life support, etc.), and my psychiatrist is at odds with the naturopath about removing me from any of them - as am I. I know I cannot function at all without them. I literally become mute, have to be spoon fed, etc. They gave me electro-convulsive therapy treatments at 16, which helped, maintenance treatments again at 22 and then last year I had transcranial magnetic therapy (you'll have to research all of that if you want to know what the MODERN usages are as it would take pages and pages for me to explain). Perhaps I should just discontinue crystal use with medication - maybe combining all the energies from the meds with the crystals is causing a bad reaction... (to Fera: my stomach and bowel problems have been resolved. It's just my mental illness that's the problem now). __________________ —Natalie D. I'm thinking about seeing an Ayurvedic doctor next as this particular naturopath doesn't seem to be helping me much other than recommending laying on the mat during panic attacks, which does help. __________________ —Natalie D.
